Delhi: Education dept relaxes eligibility criteria for admission to SoSE
This year, the education department has removed the minimum percentage requirement for admission to the Schools of Specialized Excellence (SoSE). The ongoing admissions process for the 31 new Delhi government schools with abundant resources will continue until February 28. Previously, the government’s standard criteria mandated a minimum of 66% aggregate marks in Class 7 for admission to Class 9 in any SoSE, and a minimum of 75% aggregate marks in Class 9 for admission to Class 11. However, there was a 5% waiver for students from SC, ST, OBC, and CWSN (Children with Special Needs) categories.
Due to numerous representations requesting relaxation of the eligibility criteria, the education department has decided to relax it for the 2022-23 session. Consequently, students are now only required to pass their respective previous grade to be eligible for admission.
As part of the admission process, students need to appear for aptitude tests scheduled between March 15 and March 30. The deadline for applications is February 28. This year, admissions are being conducted for 31 SoSEs, each specializing in STEM, humanities, ‘High End 21st Century Skills,’ or Performing and Visual Arts, along with one Armed Forces Preparatory School. Admissions are open for Class 9 in five types of these schools and for Class 11 in the STEM schools and the Armed Forces Preparatory School.
